The Ultimate Habit Tracker Guide: Why and How to Track Your Habits
Habit formation is not something that just happens overnight… The number one thing you need to know is that it is a long-race game. Whether it’s abs, clear skin, or a closer relationship with your creator… It often takes time for the desired results to appear. While you are staying consistent and waiting patiently for the long-term rewards of your efforts to snowball, you need a reason to stick with it. What you really need to know almost immediately is, “Am I on the right path?” “Is it time for me to start switching things up a bit?” In other words, you need constructive feedback. Useful feedback you can use to help you makes appropriate changes as you see fit.
And this is where a habit tracker can help.
If one approach doesn’t deliver, then I adjust and try a different approach.
We all know the saying If at first, you don’t succeed… Try and try again until you succeed!
To make this process as easy as possible, I created the Ultimate E-Habit Tracker Journal(did I mention it’s completely FREE!), which includes a 12-month habit tracker template broken down into 4 quarters — I created it using Google Sheets to make it customizable and reusable. All you have to do is add your habit and start crossing off the days. If you prefer a printable version I’ve got you covered my friend.
Placing an X on each day is the classic look. I prefer something a little more design-oriented, so I decided to include fun colors and fonts to make it more appealing to my eyes. You are free to use it as-is or jazz-up your copy up to make it your own (more personalized). Click Here to Access Your Habit Tracker Today. You could also use checkmarks, shade the entire box with your favorite color, or fill your habit tracker with dots.
The best part is the reward! Remember to reward yourself to help you stay consistent.

No matter what design you decide to go with… the most important thing is your habit tracker provides immediate evidence that you’re making progress toward your ultimate snowball goal(s).
Habit tracking is powerful for three reasons:
- Creates a visual cue to remind you to take action
- If you are as competitive as I am… You will want to remain consistent to avoid breaking your consistent streak”
- It creates an instant feel-good moment when I get to check something off my list. Even if it was just “Get out of bed within 5 seconds of your alarm going off.

How to Get into the Habit of Using Your Habit Tracker
What can we do to make habit tracking easier? Make a plan: After I finish meditating, I will fill in the “meditate for 1 minute” column by placing an X inside the box for that day. It really is that easy!
How to Recover Quickly When Your Habits Break Down
Falling off the bandwagon can happen to the best of us! The key is to hop back on as quickly as possible. “If I miss one day, I will try my best to get back into the swing of things as quickly as possible. Missing one habit happens, but I’m not going to miss two in a row. Maybe I’ll eat an entire pizza, but I’ll follow it up with a healthy meal. As soon as one streak ends, I get started on the next one. I can’t be perfect, but I can avoid the second mistake.” THE MOST IMPORTANT IS TO NEVER MISS TWICE
How Long Do I Need to Track My Habits?
We’ve all heard the saying “It takes 21 days to form a new habit” … I’m here to tell you that according to recent studies… That’s not always the case. Have you ever heard of someone that woke up one day and decided ” I’m going to stop (smoking/drinking) today” and they never did that thing again? In the word of King Ashly Ann (On Instagram)…
“To make a long story long” You’ll see all kinds of answers: 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, 30 days, 31 days, 60 days, 66 days, 90 days, 100+ days… The list could go on for days!
It often depends on how attached you are to certain things and/or how difficult the habit appears. Ultimately, only you know the answer. My rule of thumb is to keep doing it until it becomes a habit for you.
